North Devon
North Devon and Exmoor is a wonderful place to take a family holiday or a short break with friends. You can visit bustling market towns and sleepy villages, rolling hills and golden beaches, as well as the wild moorland of Exmoor….enough to keep you here forever! Croyde, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple are examples of some of the towns and villages within the district. Just off the coast of North Devon is the island of Lundy.
Exmoor
Exmoor, the smallest of Britain’s National Parks, is also known as Lorna Doone country as it was the base of R D Blackmore’s famous novel of the same name. Amongst the striking moorland lie several beautiful villages including Exford, which is the ideal base to explore the ancient Tarr Steps and to take part in fishing, shooting and riding.
Croyde
Croyde village is a world famous destination for surfing and water sport enthusiasts. The picturesque village provides the back drop to one of the regions best beaches and a hot-spot for surfers and surf watchers. The village is well known for its ice cream and clotted cream shops, and there are many cafes and pubs serving traditional ice cream.
Ilfracombe
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, nestling snugly amongst the rugged cliffs of the majestic Atlantic coast lies the town of Ilfracombe. The beautiful and breathtaking scenery of the North Devon coast surrounds this charming harbour. Ilfracombe became a very important holiday destination during the Victorian era and today it still sees families flock here from all over the country to enjoy its beaches, harbour and attractions.
Barnstaple
Barnstaple is the oldest and largest town in North Devon. It is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. There are a range of attractions on offer, suitable for all the family.
Lundy Island
Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bristol Channel, with nothing between it and America. A unique and unspoilt island, undisturbed by cars, and home to a fascinating array of wildlife amidst dramatic scenery including deer, seals, ponies, dolphins and rare birds. The sea is clear, the landscape spectacular and at night it is truly dark and the stars shine with an unfamiliar brilliance.
