South Hams

South Hams, with its southernly aspect sheltered by the granite uplands of Dartmoor, enjoys one of the mildest climates in the whole of mainland Britain. The district has 60 miles of coastline and 130 square miles designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dartmouth, Salcombe and Totnes are examples of some of the towns and villages within the district.

Dartmouth

A network of narrow lanes, stairways and corridors, with plenty of medieval and Elizabethan seascapes, makes Dartmouth a must-see for anyone visiting this part of Devon. The town has a reputation for good food, with many fine restaurants, as well as arts, antiques and craft shops just about everywhere. The town has a natural deep water harbour, ideal for sailing or fishing.

Salcombe

Sheltered inside the Kingsbridge estuary, Salcombe retains its peace and quiet by favouring the pedestrian over the motorist. There is plenty of parking around the edges of the town - ideal when you see the narrow streets in the town centre. There are plenty of small shops, many catering for water sports enthusiasts, as well as restaurants, galleries and some very pleasant waterfront pubs. There are also marine services and berths for seaborne tourists, and two very enjoyable little beaches.

Totnes

Totnes is a very special and unique market town in the heart of beautiful South Devon. Positioned on a hill that slopes down to the river Dart, Totnes is surrounded by rich and inspiring countryside. The river, one of several interesting waterways in the area, is home to a wide range of birds and animals. Ideally situated between Dartmoor and the sea, Totnes is a perfect base from which to explore South Devon.
